Knowledge. Compassion. Trust. Joy. Common Humanity.
Dear Reader,
We want you to know that First House stands for the following:
Knowledge: We follow our curiosity, knowing there is always more to learn. We temper our open mindedness with discernment.
Compassion: We imperfectly practice compassion for self and others. We accept that we are all in the process of learning about our humanness.
Trust: We are devoted to earning your confidence as a resource to help you develop deep trust in yourself.
Joy: We follow our creative urges and delight in spreading beauty & happiness.
Common Humanity: We are learning how to de-center self as a means to create a more equitable world and engage in harm reduction practices.
We support a safe, just, equitable, and accessible world for everyone. Who is everyone? People who are female, queer, trans, disabled, fat, indigenous, black and brown, and people who are immigrating and seeking asylum.
We believe in the freedom to practice religion and explore spiritual practices, but we condemn the practice of using those beliefs to harm, limit, or exercise control over others. We believe that capitalism in its current iteration is disenfranchising and exploiting the majority. We believe climate change is real, serious, and requires immediate action. We believe empathy requires imagination and love in action looks more like sacrifice than personal gain.
We acknowledge how far we have come and how much further we have to go. We acknowledge that these times are heartbreaking, terrifying, and unjust. We are thankful that we are not alone, and we exist to offer resources, tools, practices, support, and community. We sure do need it right now.
We press on towards the goal. We persist. We hold on. We keep hoping.
With love,
